Things to do round and about:
At Villa Leon itself you can play darts and table-tennis in the open-sided barns, and/or informal ball-games in the garden or the pool. Sarah can also offer bargain-priced lessons in how to make pasta - an activity children of all ages find great fun.
There is a 77-hectare lake with sandy beach, fishing, family watersports and its own restaurant/snacks at Mielan, just 6km away. Mielan town centre also offers the little restaurant shown on the left, a delightfully old-fashioned market every Thursday and, in the summer, a Sunday market too. Other excellent weekly markets abound: you can catch one somewhere every day of the week.
There are country walks everywhere in the area, including in the beautiful woods (a 10-minute drive away). The Santiago de Compostela route also passes through this part of Gascony.
There is an 18-hole golf course at a chateau with the best local restaurant within easy reach by car, and nearby tennis courts.
Visiting Lourdes is easy and makes an interesting day out. It's less than an hour away.
Also within easy reach is the Cave at Betharram (Grottes de Betharram), which takes you into the heart of the caves by underground boat and train.
Several wine-growing chateaux and a truffle orchard are visitable in the area.
We're also within reach of the Thermal Spa at Bagneres-de-Bigorre, and of course the mountains: including a cable-car ride up the magnificent Pic du Midi.
The foothills of the Pyrenees are also of special interest, and include the site of the 800-year-old Cathedral of Sainte-Marie in the lovely village of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges.
We can supply much more detail, on everything from flower markets to horse-racing and from music festivals to food, on request, to help you make the most of your stay. On the other hand we can also encourage you to slow down, relax, and enjoy the rural Gascon pace of life.
